Making Life Lighter

A journal writing course

Dry Roses and Diary

About Amy:

The kind, self-healing author.

Amy Eden Jollymoore is a writer and author of The Kind Self Healing Book. She studied writing at Vermont College of Fine Arts, earning an MFA in Creative Writing. Her fiction has appeared in Gigantic Sequins and was a finalist in the Glimmer Train Fiction Open. Her nonfiction has appeared in Time Out New York, Natural Health, Scholastic, PBS online, Forbes, The Good Men Project, Ravishly, and others.

She is currently working on a memoir. Amy began her career in publishing in New York City when subway tokens filled centers, writing and editing for magazines, then websites, and book publishers. Her first writing clip was a review of feline drinking fountains for the New York ASPCA (because you've got to start somewhere). Amy was born in Duluth, Minnesota. She has lived in Oakland, San Francisco, Boston, and New York. She now lives on Coast Miwok land in Northern California with her son. There is a cat, too, Ms. Wanda Honeybelly.

The Kind Self-Healing Book: Raise Yourself Up with Curiosity and Compassion

As an adult child of alcoholics and the founder of the influential blog Guess What Normal Is (guesswhatnormalis.com), author Amy Eden understands the importance-and the particular challenges-of nurturing self-care and self-love, having embarked on the complex journey herself. As a result, this candid and sympathetic book invites readers to take a courageous look inside their hearts and minds, guided by sensitivity and love, so they may discover how some of their unconscious behaviors are hurting them.

Even in the center of some very raw emotion, you will find that the book's guidance and activities are gentle every step of the way, allowing you to cultivate great self-compassion. In examining the reactive, defensive, isolating, and safety-seeking behaviors that all adult children of alcoholic, addicted, or otherwise narcissistic and childlike parents have always utilized-simply as learned habits or survival mechanisms-you will begin a personal transformation of deep love and growth. With whimsical and calming illustrations and a design that welcomes participation, The Kind Self-Healing Book encourages you to write your thoughts, feelings, and observations on its pages-inspiring, guiding, and supporting you throughout in making the kinds of changes that will enable you to lead the happier, more functional, and overall more balanced life you've always wanted.

ANNA, CEO of Information Technology

Amy is a powerful coach. It was very easy to connect with her and open myself up enough to get into issues that were troubling me. She immediately understood the problem and she gave me some practical tips I could put into practice right away. Whenever I find myself facing that issue, I refer to her tips and find the way out.

FORREST, Interior Designer

MEXICO

While working with Amy, I learned how to develop and implement proper boundaries in my personal and business relationships. The change was nearly immediate and has allowed my business to grow and thrive—and given me more space in my personal life!

My sessions with Amy helped to place a mirror up to existing patterns in my life, and to validate them as real experiences. She helped to place a new lens upon assumptions that effectively ran my life. I was able to better define "self-care" and actually rediscover a sense of play and curiosity, to indulge in life and not just duty.

LeANNE, Massage Therapist

Amy is one of those very easy to talk to healers—I felt instantly comfortable expressing my thoughts, feelings, and experiences with her. The greatest benefit has been learning how to organize my many thoughts and big feelings into interconnected themes, which gives me the mental space to prioritize what I feel is most important to work on.

TOM, Musician

The work that I did with Amy completely changed my life for the better. By illuminating that you can be kind without sacrificing your own well-being, Amy helped me learn how to balance being of service both to others and myself—to the benefit of both.
